GC has a phenomenal pool of talent of over 69,000 people nationwide and they do great work for us at promotional events. In addition to their excellent work we find that we learn from them every day! We decided to give talent a way to share their accumulated knowledge about event staffing in a way that only experienced brand ambassadors can. This post is part of our Tips from Talent series.

Whether you remember Greer from her debut guest blog post in November, sat next to her at an audition, worked with her on an event, seen her on a commercial, or read her event staffing blog Random Day Job, chances are you’ve probably heard of Greer Carlson. She’s got an indomitable personality and an unbeatable work ethic, and we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome her back for another guest blog. We’re looking forward to reading your comments!
Are Talent & Agencies Being Effective through Social Networking?
First of all, thank you GC Marketing for having me back as a guest blogger! Speaking from the talent perspective, it’s always appreciated to have an opportunity for open conversation with the agencies who hire brand ambassadors. As a new year begins, I think it would be nice to have a little back and forth between talent and agency. Let’s treat this guest post more like a conversation than an article. Hopefully it sparks a flow of comments below.
There is no doubt that the internet and social networking have dramatically changed the way marketing agencies interact with talent. How can talent portals, Facebook, Twitter and agency blogs be most effective? Are we putting effort into areas that do not receive feedback? Or are we missing opportunities to really connect with each other? I’ve formed a list of questions below. Find the appropriate category and please leave comments.
Questions for Promotional Talent:
- Do you prefer a marketing agency with a talent portal or no portal with information “on file”?
- When searching for jobs, do you prefer to search a company website or receive an email?
- How many marketing agency blogs do you follow? And do you actually read the posts?
- If you do follow agency blogs, what topics are over done and what would you like discussed?
- Are you active or non-active on the Facebook pages of marketing companies? Why or why not?
- When following a marketing company on Twitter, what types of comments are relevant?
Questions for Marketing Companies:
- What are you looking for on a talents profile? What makes it good or bad?
- What is the best way for talent to stay in touch, but not become a nuisance?
- Do marketing companies follow each other’s blogs?
- What are you hoping talent will gain from your blog posts? Do you feel like its working?
- Do you consider your company active on its Facebook page? What type of things do you post?
- What are you hoping talent will gain from your tweets on Twitter?
All thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated! The more talent and agencies can communicate, the more we can learn from each other and in turn become more successful at both of our jobs!

Personally, I prefer a talent portal. I like being able to login and change or update information. In addition to the talent portal, I like when the company sends an email when a new job is available in my area. A combination of the two is my favorite.
I actually only follow two agency blogs, GC Marketing Services and BMT Promotions and Talent, but there are probably many more I should be following!! I do read the posts from time to time, but not every article, every time.
Sometimes the “talent of the month” idea gets a little old. But, I like when the blog keeps it fresh with various topics and guest bloggers. Anything related to the industry works for me!
Honestly, I’m not super active on the Facebook pages of marketing companies. From time to time I will catch something on my feed, but I do not make a habit of checking the pages on a regular basis. I do check many Facebook Groups related to the industry though. Not sure why I don’t check various company Facebook pages, I must feel that I am not missing anything, which could be a big mistake.
I “follow” many people and marketing companies on Twitter, but almost never really check out the feed. I’m still learning the Twitter thing, I don’t really get it!!
